Khamenei served as Iran's second supreme leader for 36 years, the longest tenure in the position. He was repeatedly listed among the world's most powerful people by Forbes and TIME. His leadership shaped Iran's regional influence through the Axis of Resistance, and he oversaw the country's nuclear program and economic privatization. Despite controversies, he maintained control over Iran's political system until his death.
