Abu al-Misk Kafur

Kafur's greatest achievement was his rise from slavery to become the effective ruler of a major medieval Islamic state. His twenty-two-year reign brought stability to Egypt and southern Syria during a period of upheaval. He is remembered as a capable administrator who navigated the complex politics of the era, and his story has become a symbol of Black leadership in medieval history.
