New 2026 taxes in the EU

@not_a_newtthe trick isn't a big tax bill, it's death by a thousand tiny fees and nobody's out here rioting over it. call the whole approach what it is: idiotic. online shopping is the cash cow. packages valued under €150 get a €3 customs charge per item type from Jul 1, then from Nov 1 there's a €2 charge on each item type in a non-EU order. Romania wants 25 lei (roughly €5) for every parcel arriving from outside the bloc between Jan 1 and Oct 31, Austria collects €2 per parcel once a seller passes €100m in Austrian sales from Oct 1, and France has its own €2 parcel levy running Mar 1 to Jul 1. Jan 1 is stacked. CBAM starts hitting incoming goods across those six categories. Belgium begins taxing financial assets at 10% with the first €10,000 annually exempt. in Germany, Freiburg adds €0.50 for each disposable cup or dish. later in the year: Barcelona's tourist tax doubles to as much as €12 per person per night from Apr 1, Dutch trucks pay €0.025 to €0.487 per km from Jul 1, and Poland's 1% copyright levy lands on smartphones, computers and memory cards Nov 13. ETS changes mean airlines keep zero free allowances and shipping now gets billed for methane and nitrous oxide too. over in the UK, Edinburgh takes 5% of the room price, vape duty goes to £2.20 per 10 ml and travel permits jump from £16 to £20. France also wants 20% off the non-business assets held by family holding companies.

    About this photo

This is an infographic detailing new taxes in the EU for 2026. The focus is on the projected revenue from various taxes, with a prominent €6bn highlighted for charges on online parcels. The style is clean and informative, presenting data visually through a bar chart. A notable detail is the breakdown of taxes, showing the EU parcel duty as the largest contributor. ON-SCREEN TEXT: New 2026 taxes in the EU: about €9 billion a year Government estimates, per year, once fully in force €6bn from EU charges on cheap online parcels alone EU parcel duty + €2 fee €6.0bn Carbon border tax (CBAM) €1.4bn Dutch truck toll €1.1bn Austria parcel tax €0.28bn Belgium capital gains tax €0.25bn Catalonia tourist tax hike €0.1bn Source: European Commission (via Reuters), national finance ministries, Catalan Parliament @MyLordBebo
