Rick Baker Videodrome Flesh Gun sketch

@oldhollywoodcapThe final Flesh Gun in the 1983 film Videodrome was a foam-latex appliance, but Rick Baker's original concept art for it is somehow even more disturbing. Baker initially designed a living handgun complete with eyes, a mouth, and a foreskin, yet David Cronenberg deemed that version too graphic and ordered the removal of those elements. Instead, practical effects were deployed to depict the weapon physically fusing with Max Renn's hand. The discarded organic design featuring those specific body parts never made the cut.

    About this photo

The image displays a concept sketch of a biomechanical hand, likely from a film. The hand is detailed with a fleshy, textured appearance, featuring multiple openings with sharp teeth-like structures and tubes. A smaller inset image shows a more detailed view of the creature's head. The overall mood is unsettling and grotesque, fitting for a horror or sci-fi aesthetic. Visually notable are the intricate details of the hand's construction and the stark contrast between the inset head and the main hand illustration. ON-SCREEN TEXT: One of Rick Baker's original concept sketches for the biomechanical flesh- gun, a foam-latex glove covered with KY-jelly, worn by James Woods. Sculpted by Tom Hester, the glove was rigged with tubing and a trigger to let Woods fire bursts of freon gas. Another of Baker's organic concepts featured eyes, mouth and a foreskin (Inset), but the director scrapped it as too graphic.
