Misimović's greatest individual achievement is his Bundesliga record of 20 assists in the 2008–09 season, a mark that highlighted his elite playmaking ability and stood as the league's best until Kevin De Bruyne surpassed it. That season he also won the Bundesliga title with Wolfsburg, the club's first top-flight championship. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, he ranks fourth in all-time appearances with 84 caps and third in goals with 25, making him one of the most important figures in the nation's football history. He represented the country at the 2014 World Cup, its first major tournament.
