Zhao Yue

Zhao Yue is a Chinese singer, dancer, and actress who rose to prominence as a core member of the idol group SNH48 before transitioning into a successful solo career in film and television. Born on April 29, 1995, she established herself as one of the group's top performers with her distinctive cool aesthetic and powerful stage presence. After graduating from SNH48 in September 2022, she pivoted her focus toward acting and independent music projects.

Known professionally by her stage name Akira Zhao, she currently operates as an independent artist following the termination of her contract with Star48 Culture & Media in April 2025. Her recent work includes starring roles in detective short dramas and romantic comedies, marking a deliberate shift away from her idol roots to be recognized as a serious actress. As of 2026, she continues to manage her own studio and actively engages with fans through social media platforms like Instagram and X. [edit]

Zhao Yue was born in Wuhan, Hubei Province, but spent significant portions of her childhood in Shaoguan, Guangdong, where she later registered her official origin for industry purposes. Her early years were defined by a strong interest in dance and performance arts, which led her to attend high school with a specialized focus on the performing arts. This vocational path paved the way for her entry into the entertainment world without traditional university education.

In August 2013, she joined SNH48 as a trainee, entering a rigorous training system that demanded excellence in dance, vocals, and stage presence. The environment at the SNH48 training center was intense, designed to mold raw talent into polished idols. She quickly adapted to the demands of the industry, developing the physical stamina and technical skill required for live performances. By November 2013, she had earned enough trust and skill to be promoted to Team NII, one of the group's main units, setting the stage for her future rise within the organization. [edit]

Zhao Yue's career took off rapidly after joining Team NII, where she became known for her powerful dancing and a unique 'cool' persona that contrasted with the typical cute image of many idols. Fans began calling her 'Akira,' a nickname that stuck and eventually became her primary professional moniker. From 2013 to 2018, she solidified her status as a top-tier idol by consistently ranking in the upper tiers of the group's annual General Elections. Her leadership within Team NII and her ability to command the stage made her a fan favorite.

A major turning point came in 2018 when she joined the sub-unit 7Senses, which allowed her to showcase a more mature, hip-hop-influenced style. This era highlighted her versatility beyond standard pop idol tropes. In 2020, she gained international recognition by participating in the survival reality show Produce Camp 2020. Despite initial skepticism, her exceptional dance skills and charismatic stage presence resonated with viewers, leading to a runner-up finish that secured her a spot in the girl group BonBon Girls 303.

The group disbanded in July 2022, prompting Zhao Yue to officially graduate from SNH48 on September 11 of that year. She immediately announced the establishment of her personal studio, signaling a full transition to a solo artist and actress. Her post-idol career has been marked by diverse acting roles, including the detective short drama The Rookie Female Detective in October 2023 and the romantic comedy Handsome Guys Not Allowed in March 2024. In April 2025, she announced via live broadcast that she had terminated her contract with Star48 Culture & Media to pursue fully independent operations, taking control of her career trajectory. [edit]

Zhao Yue cultivates a public image defined by strength, independence, and a distinct 'cool' aesthetic. Unlike many of her contemporaries who rely on a 'cute' or 'girl-next-door' persona, she embraces an androgynous style featuring streetwear, leather jackets, and bold makeup. This edgy look became synonymous with her stage name 'Akira' and set her apart in the crowded idol market. Her social media voice reflects this confidence, often sharing glimpses of her rigorous training routines and professional growth.

Media outlets and fans alike view her as a versatile performer capable of adapting to various genres, from high-energy dance numbers to dramatic acting roles. Her transition from idol to actress has been viewed positively, with critics noting her determination to shed the idol label and be taken seriously as a dramatic actress. This reinvention effort highlights her commitment to longevity in the industry rather than fleeting popularity. [edit]

Zhao Yue holds a significant place in the Chinese idol landscape, though she does not currently appear in the published global rankings. As of the October 2026 evaluation by the iFANN Global Fame Engine, she is evaluated but not ranked within the Top 1,000. She was not featured on the September 2026 iFAMOUS Rankings flagship list. Despite the lack of a current numeric placement, her influence remains substantial within her specific demographic and region.

Her fanbase is fiercely loyal and highly organized, particularly during election cycles and promotional events. While there is no single formalized fandom name documented in official records, her supporters are known as 'Yue Qi' or simply 'Akira's Fans.' These fans are famous for their massive voting drives during SNH48 General Elections, often organizing streaming campaigns and purchasing merchandise to secure her top positions. Birthday celebrations frequently feature billboards in Shanghai and subway advertisements funded by fan contributions. Zhao Yue reciprocates this support by engaging directly with followers on Weibo and Instagram, sharing exclusive content and expressing genuine appreciation for their dedication. [edit]

Zhao Yue is often referred to as the 'Queen of Cool' within the idol community due to her distinct androgynous style and confident stage demeanor. One of her most iconic moments occurred during the 7Senses era, where her transformation from a cute trainee to a powerful performer influenced a generation of younger idols. Another defining moment was her graduation speech in 2022, which went viral for its emotional depth and gratitude toward her supporters. She is also known for her dedication to dance, once stating that it is her language and she will keep speaking it until she can no longer perform.

Beyond the stage, she maintains a relatively private personal life despite her fame. While there have been numerous fan-made pairings or 'ships' with other female idols due to close on-screen chemistry, none have been confirmed by credible sources or the individuals involved. Her ability to maintain a balance between a public persona and private boundaries has earned her respect among peers. She also actively uses her platform to share behind-the-scenes content of her training and acting preparation, giving fans an intimate look at her work ethic. [edit]

Zhao Yue keeps her family life largely out of the spotlight, sharing very little about her parents or siblings in public interviews. There are no widely reported details regarding her immediate family members' professions or backgrounds. She resides in Shanghai, a hub for the Chinese entertainment industry, where she manages her personal studio and acts as the head of her own business entity. Her household is focused on her career, with no reports of children or a spouse as of 2026. She values privacy and rarely discusses her home life, preferring to let her work speak for itself. [edit]

Zhao Yue has maintained a notably private personal life throughout her rise to fame. Unlike some of her peers who openly discuss their dating lives, she has kept her romantic relationships out of the public eye. There are no verified records of her being married, engaged, or having a confirmed long-term partner as of 2026. Throughout her time in SNH48 and BonBon Girls 303, speculation often arose regarding her relationships with fellow female idols due to close on-screen chemistry.

Fans frequently created pairings or 'ships' with members like Chen Lin and Liang Qiao, driven by their interactions in variety shows and concerts. However, these rumors were never confirmed by Zhao Yue or credible media outlets, and she has consistently focused her public narrative on her career and artistic endeavors. Following her contract termination in April 2025, she has continued to operate independently, with no reports of new relationships or changes to her single status. Her priority remains her solo acting career and managing her own business interests. [edit]

iFANN currently estimates Zhao Yue's net worth at approximately $2.4 million USD as of 2026. This figure is derived from her extensive career in the highly monetized Chinese idol industry, combined with her recent success in acting and independent business ventures. Her wealth accumulation began with her tenure in SNH48, where she earned income from concert tours, album sales, and endorsement deals with major beauty and fashion brands.

Following her graduation in 2022, her revenue streams diversified significantly. Acting salaries from projects like The Rookie Female Detective and Handsome Guys Not Allowed have become a primary source of income. Additionally, she owns and operates her personal studio, which manages merchandise sales and brand collaborations, adding a layer of entrepreneurial income to her profile. Real estate holdings in Shanghai may also contribute to her overall asset value, though these are not publicly detailed. Her financial trajectory shows steady growth as she transitions from a group-dependent idol to a self-managed artist. [edit]

Zhao Yue has won multiple awards recognizing her individual contributions to the entertainment industry. Her most notable accolades include consistent top rankings in the SNH48 Group General Elections, where she secured the Center position and Most Popular Member titles in several years. In 2020, she achieved a runner-up finish in Produce Camp 2020, a feat that brought her international attention and validated her skills as a performer outside the idol group structure. [edit]
