Zabelê Gomes

Zabelê Cidade Gomes (born April 1, 1978, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian singer, composer, and dancer, daughter of Baby do Brasil and Pepeu Gomes of Os Novos Baianos (Wikipedia / Zabelê). In 1997 she formed the sister trio SNZ with Sarah Sheeva and Nãna Shara; the group released SNZ (2000), Sarahnãnazabelê (2001), and Zunzum e Pronto (2007) (Wikipedia / SNZ). Solo albums followed: Zabelê (2015) and Auê (2021), the latter with Carlinhos Brown and Ney Matogrosso (Discogs, Papelpop).[edit]

Born April 1, 1978, in Rio de Janeiro to Baby do Brasil and Pepeu Gomes (Wikipedia / Zabelê). Raised inside the Novos Baianos orbit on samba, psychedelic rock, and counterculture; trained as a dancer and singer. She has recalled that she and her siblings preferred their famous parents not pick them up from school, to avoid the fan commotion.[edit]

SNZ rode the early-2000s Brazilian pop wave as an R&B/hip-hop/pop trio, releasing two albums plus a remix record to commercial success (Last.fm). Zabelê’s solo reset began with rehearsals at a farm near Araras in May 2015 ahead of her self-titled first solo album (Folha, Discogs). Auê arrived in December 2021 with Brown and Matogrosso aboard (Papelpop); that year she also played a Teatro Riachuelo show with her father (Diário do Rio). Recent work includes revisiting her father’s songbook. In April 2026 she gave a widely covered Marie Claire interview on her sisters, now evangelical pastors: “They are different worlds and I find that very rich” (Marie Claire).[edit]
