Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)

On June 10, 2022, BTS dropped "Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)" as the lead single from their anthology album Proof. It was their first original Korean-language single since "Life Goes On" in 2020, and it arrived at a moment when the group was taking stock of a nine-year career that had turned them into a global phenomenon. The title nods directly to the "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" series from 2015-2016, a sprawling multimedia project of short films and interconnected music videos that helped define their early artistic identity.

The track is a light alternative hip-hop number, running just 3:19. It blends the distinct styles of the group's three rappers, RM, Suga, and J-Hope, with the vocal melodies of Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The production feels like a callback to that earlier era, but the lyrics push forward. V sings, "Yeah the past was honestly the best / But my best is what comes next." RM's verse brushes off the weight of titles: "Being called the best makes me blush even now / I, I just love music." The chorus repeats a promise: "Promise that we'll keep on coming back for more."

Critics gave it mostly strong reviews. NME awarded a perfect 5/5, calling it "a stunning tribute to their story so far." EUPHORIA. noted the song "signals a time of change and a new direction for the band." But KBopped was more measured, calling it "solid if rather inessential" and comparing it unfavorably to BTS's stronger melancholic pop tracks like "Spring Day." The music video, directed by Yong Seok Choi (Lumpens), is a visual retrospective: it recreates sets from past videos including "Just One Day," "Run," "Blood Sweat & Tears," "Spring Day," and "No More Dream," all staged on a deserted island.

Beyond the single, a British rock remix was produced for Hyundai's "Goal of the Century" campaign tied to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The song performed strongly on charts worldwide, reaching number one in several countries and landing high on many others. For longtime fans, the track's direct reference to the HYYH era created a full-circle moment, a reflection on where the group had been and where it might go next. [edit]
