Overview
Two lawyers who should be enemies keep ending up on the same side of the truth. Yargı (sold abroad as Family Secrets) pairs prosecutor Ilgaz Kaya with defense attorney Ceylin Erguvan, played by Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Pınar Deniz. He trusts procedure. She trusts her gut. Their cases force them to work together, and the friction between those instincts drives the whole show. Creator Sema Ergenekon built it for Kanal D, and Ay Yapım produced it.
What separates Yargı from a standard legal procedural is patience. Episodes run about 140 minutes, so a single case can unfold across a whole evening, with courtroom maneuvering sharing time with the private lives of the Kaya and Erguvan families. Secrets surface slowly. Corruption reaches into places the characters would rather not look. The show aired 95 episodes across three seasons, from September 19, 2021, to May 26, 2024.
In November 2023, the series won Best Telenovela at the 51st International Emmy Awards in New York. That win turned a strong domestic performer into one of Turkey's most exported dramas, with broadcasts from Chile to Serbia. The cast around the leads includes Hüseyin Avni Danyal, Uğur Aslan, Arda Anarat, and Uğur Polat. If you like legal drama that treats moral gray zones as the point rather than the obstacle, this one earns its running time.

Ilgaz Kaya works as a public prosecutor in Istanbul. He believes in the system he serves, even when the system disappoints him. His father and siblings are part of the legal world too, so the law is less a career for Ilgaz than a family inheritance. Ceylin Erguvan is younger, a defense attorney who takes cases other lawyers avoid and bends rules when the rules get in the way of something she thinks is right. She did not grow up inside the establishment. She fights it.
The two meet over a murder investigation that pulls them both in. Ilgaz sees a case that needs to be built carefully. Ceylin sees a client who needs someone willing to take risks. Neither is entirely wrong, and that is the tension the show lives on. Season one uses that first case to introduce both families and to plant the suspicion that someone inside the justice system is not what they appear to be. The Kaya household, with its expectations and its buried resentments, becomes as much a battleground as any courtroom.
Across the first season, the show settles into a rhythm that is not case-of-the-week. Cases stretch across many episodes. A single investigation will implicate a businessman, then a cop, then a family member, and the characters have to decide how far they are willing to go. Ceylin's willingness to break rules costs her. Ilgaz's caution frustrates the people he loves. The writing keeps both positions defensible, which is why arguments between them feel like real disagreements rather than plot mechanics.
Season two widens the conspiracy. What began as a murder inquiry turns into something with longer roots, touching corruption that reaches beyond any single case. The personal cost rises for both leads. Ceylin faces consequences for choices she made when she thought she was protecting someone. Ilgaz has to weigh his loyalty to the institution against evidence that the institution is compromised. The show also deepens its supporting ensemble here, giving the Kaya siblings and the Erguvan circle their own arcs instead of leaving them as background.
The third and final season pushes toward a reckoning. The serialized threads that were planted in season one come back, and the characters have to face the families and institutions that shaped them. It is not a clean process. People who spent two seasons justifying their compromises have to live with them. The season aired through May 26, 2024, and the producers treated it as a planned ending rather than a sudden cancellation. The finale details stay out of this section, but the shape of the story is clear: two lawyers who started as adversaries have to decide what they actually owe each other and the system they serve.

Critical Reception
Critical Consensus
Audiences and critics respond to the Ilgaz-Ceylin chemistry and the show's refusal to resolve cases cleanly. The International Emmy for Best Telenovela in 2023 confirmed its standing abroad. Turkish viewer forums are more divided on how realistically the show depicts courtroom procedure, but the serialized plotting and moral complexity draw consistent praise.
