Wycombe Wanderers F.C.

Wycombe Wanderers began in 1887 as an amateur side in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, before transitioning to professional status in the mid-1980s. The club earned its distinctive nickname, The Chairboys, from the town's historic furniture manufacturing industry. They currently compete in EFL League One, the third tier of English football, having played at Adams Park since 1990 after moving from Loakes Park.

A major milestone occurred during the 2014–15 season when the team won the Conference Premier title to secure automatic promotion to League Two. Their rise continued rapidly, culminating in a historic promotion to the Championship for the first time in 2019–20 following a play-off victory over Bolton Wanderers. Although they were relegated back to League One the following year, the club reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in 2018–19 after defeating Leicester City.

Gareth Ainsworth managed the squad from 2016 until May 2024, guiding them to their highest-ever league finish of 10th place in the Championship. Following his departure to Queens Park Rangers, the club entered a transitional period involving multiple coaching figures including Matt Bloomfield and Michael Duff. The club was established in 1887 by local residents and spent most of its early existence in regional amateur leagues such as the Spartan League. A significant shift happened in 1985 when the board voted to turn professional, allowing the team to enter the Football Conference in 1991. Success accelerated under manager Gareth Ainsworth starting in 2016. The team won the FA Trophy in 2015 and secured the Conference Premier title in 2015, which led to immediate promotion to League Two. The 2019–20 season marked the pinnacle of modern history as they defeated Bolton Wanderers 1–0 in the League One play-off final to reach the Championship. Despite finishing 10th that year, they finished last in the subsequent season and returned to League One.

Rivalries define much of the club's identity, particularly the fixture against Milton Keynes Dons. This match is considered one of the fiercest in English football due to the relocation of Wimbledon FC to Milton Keynes in 2003, a move many Wycombe supporters viewed as a betrayal.
