    Overview

Wuthering Waves drops you into a post-apocalyptic world where nature has reclaimed civilization, and strange creatures called Tacet Discords roam the land. You play as a Rover, waking with no memory but a mysterious power to absorb echoes. Combat is fast and fluid, with parries, dodges, and character-switching combos that feel more like a character action game than a typical gacha RPG. The echo system lets you capture defeated enemies and use their abilities in battle, adding a layer of strategy reminiscent of Pokémon.

Kuro Games, the studio behind Punishing: Gray Raven, built this open-world gacha title with a focus on deep combat and exploration. It launched on May 22, 2024, for iOS, Android, and Windows, with PlayStation 5, macOS, and Xbox Series X/S versions arriving over the next two years. While comparisons to Genshin Impact are inevitable, Wuthering Waves leans harder into action, with less downtime and more aggressive enemy design. The rating is T for Teen, and the free-to-play model includes gacha mechanics for new characters and weapons.

    Gameplay

Combat in Wuthering Waves revolves around fast-paced, real-time action. You build a team of three Resonators, swapping between them mid-fight to chain Intro and Outro Skills. Extreme Evasion triggers slow-motion windows for counterattacks, while Echo Skills let you unleash captured enemy abilities. Exploration is equally fluid: wall-running, parkour, and a motorbike let you traverse the world without stamina constraints. The echo system works like a creature-collection mechanic, defeat certain Tacet Discords to absorb their echoes, then equip them for battle or traversal bonuses.

    Story

On the planet Solaris-3, civilization has collapsed under catastrophic events called Laments. You awaken as the Rover, an amnesiac with the ability to absorb echoes from defeated enemies. Together with Resonators, individuals who harness echoes for extraordinary powers, you journey to reclaim lost memories and uncover the truth behind the Laments. The narrative unfolds through main quests and side stories, with early chapters criticized for pacing issues but later patches showing improvement.
