Witch Hat Atelier

Witch Hat Atelier is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama. It has been serialized in Kodansha's seinen magazine Morning Two since July 2016, with chapters collected into 16 tankōbon volumes as of April 2026. The story follows Coco, a girl who dreams of becoming a witch but lacks magical talent. When a traveling witch named Qifrey reveals that magic is a learnable skill based on drawing intricate circles, Coco's life changes. After accidentally turning her mother to stone with a forbidden diagram, she becomes Qifrey's apprentice, joining other trainees—Tetia, Agott, and Richeh—in his atelier. Together they study the principles of magic, the importance of creativity, and the ethical responsibilities of wielding power.

The series has won multiple awards, including the Harvey Award for Best Manga in 2020 and 2025, and the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia in 2020. By March 2026, it had over 7.5 million copies in circulation worldwide. An anime television adaptation by Bug Films premiered in April 2026. A spin-off, Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen, began serialization in Morning Two in November 2019.[edit]
