White Fox

White Fox Co., Ltd. launched in April 2007 in Suginami, Tokyo, founded by former OLM producer Gaku Iwasa. The studio's first major project was the 2009 fantasy series Tears to Tiara, but it was the 2011 adaptation of the visual novel Steins;Gate that put White Fox on the map. That show's intricate time-travel plot and emotional depth earned it a devoted following and critical acclaim, setting a template for the studio's future work.

White Fox specializes in adapting complex source material, especially visual novels and light novels. Its roster includes Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, which redefined the isekai genre with psychological horror elements, and Akame ga Kill!, a dark fantasy that became a fan favorite. The studio also co-produced Sword Art Online: Alicization and handled the Utawarerumono adaptations. Unlike larger studios that churn out multiple series per season, White Fox typically releases one or two major titles a year, prioritizing narrative depth and character writing over flashy action.

The studio remains privately owned by Iwasa, with no parent company. Its headquarters in Suginami include a second studio opened in 2020 to manage growing demand. While exact revenue is undisclosed, industry estimates place annual revenue between ¥500 million and ¥1 billion, buoyed by the global success of Re:Zero and Steins;Gate. White Fox's content reaches international audiences through streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix. The studio is currently producing Re:Zero Season 3, announced in 2023, and continues to partner closely with Kadokawa on new projects.[edit]
