What More Can I Give

Michael Jackson wrote "What More Can I Give" as a direct response to the September 11 attacks, channeling a collective sense of grief into a call for unity. The song brought together an unprecedented lineup of pop and R&B stars, billed as The All-Stars, including Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, NSYNC, Celine Dion, Usher, Luther Vandross, and Mýa. Jackson had started developing the idea as early as 1992, with early iterations connected to his meeting with Nelson Mandela in 1999. The recording took place during sessions for his album Invincible, though it never made that record.

The project aimed to raise $50 million for the families of the victims, but it became entangled in Jackson's public feud with Sony Music, his label, which shelved the single. In 2003, it briefly appeared as a digital download with proceeds going to children's charities, only to be pulled just before the raid on Neverland Ranch. A Spanish-language version, "Todo Para Ti," was also recorded, with lyrics adapted by Rubén Blades and production by K.C. Porter, adding a distinct Latin flavor.

Because of its limited and withdrawn release, the song never charted or received certifications. Its music video, produced by Marc Schaffel, is considered one of Jackson's final completed projects. Retrospectives often describe it as a lost tribute to 9/11, and it remains a topic of discussion among fans and music historians.
