What About Love

Ann Wilson delivers a soaring vocal performance on "What About Love," a track that became the lead single for Heart's self-titled eighth studio album in June 1985. The song arrived at a critical moment for the band, serving as their first top-40 hit in three years and breaking into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 after a five-year drought. It climbed to number 10 on the main pop chart while securing the number 3 spot on the Mainstream Rock Tracks list. Brian Allen, Sheron Alton, and Jim Vallance wrote the composition back in 1982, originally crafting it for the Canadian group Toronto before they passed on it.

Ron Nevison produced the recording with a polished arena rock sound designed to highlight Nancy Wilson's guitar work alongside Ann's powerful delivery. A unique detail of the session involves background vocals provided by Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas from Starship, who were working together during that era. The official music video directed by Peter Bergman gained significant traction after being uploaded to YouTube in 2010 and has since gathered over 85 million views.
