    About This Song

On June 15, 1981, the Jacksons dropped "Walk Right Now" as the fourth and final single from their album Triumph. Written and produced by Michael, Jackie, and Randy Jackson, the song channels a man fed up with his partner's excuses for cheating. It's a driving rhythm and blues track with prominent synthesizers, guitar riffs, and handclaps that push the beat forward.

In the US, the single peaked at number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 50 on the R&B chart. Across the Atlantic, it fared better, reaching number 7 on the UK Singles Chart, making it the most successful single from Triumph in Britain. Record World praised the vocal performance, noting the song "explodes from the outset with an energetic rhythm kick."

The Jacksons performed "Walk Right Now" on their 1981 Triumph TV special, a choreographed performance that has since become a classic piece of 1980s television. They also played it live on the early dates of the Triumph Tour before dropping it from the setlist. Years later, the Notorious B.I.G. sampled the song's bassline and drum pattern for his 1997 track "Going Back to Cali."
