About
Vueling S.A. is a Spanish low-cost carrier that has made Barcelona its home base since its founding in 2004. Headquartered in Viladecans, just outside the Catalan capital, the airline operates primary hubs at Barcelona–El Prat Airport, with secondary bases at Paris Orly, Amsterdam Schiphol, London Gatwick, and Rome Fiumicino. By 2019, Vueling was flying over 34 million passengers annually to 122 destinations across Europe, Africa, and Asia. The airline became part of International Airlines Group (IAG) in 2013, joining the same corporate family as British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus. Known for its no-frills model and bright yellow livery, Vueling competes directly with carriers like Ryanair and easyJet on short-haul routes, while also feeding passengers into IAG's long-haul networks.
The airline was established on 10 February 2004 and launched its first flight on 1 July 2004 from Barcelona to Ibiza. The name Vueling combines the Spanish word vuelo (flight) with the English gerund suffix -ing. Initial operations used two Airbus A320 aircraft serving Brussels, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, and Paris-CDG. As of 2024, the fleet has grown to 136 aircraft, and the airline carries over 38 million passengers each year. Vueling's frequent-flyer program, Vueling Club, is an Avios affiliate, allowing members to earn and redeem points across IAG airlines.
In January 2026, Vueling unveiled its strategic roadmap called Rumbo 2035, outlining plans for the next decade. The airline has been accelerating digital, cultural, and cost transformations across more than 20 initiatives following the COVID-19 pandemic. IAG Cargo also inaugurated a new pharmaceutical transport route connecting Barcelona and Menorca in 2024, leveraging Vueling's network. With approximately 5,000 employees, Vueling remains Spain's leading low-cost carrier, balancing efficiency with innovation in passenger experience.
