Vogue Italia
Italy"The world's leading fashion magazine, known for bold artistry and cultural commentary."
About
Vogue Italia, the Italian edition of the iconic fashion magazine, launched in 1964 when Condé Nast International acquired the Italian publication Novità. The first issue appeared on December 17, 1964, priced at 10 cents (about $2.85 today). In 1965 it was renamed Vogue & Novità, and by May 1966 it became Vogue Italia under founding editor Franco Sartori, who led for 22 years. The magazine is headquartered in Milan and is published eight times a year, consistent with the global Vogue format.
Franca Sozzani took over in 1988 and transformed Vogue Italia into a cultural powerhouse. Her editorials were known for their artistic ambition and willingness to address social issues like racism, plastic surgery, and domestic violence. She died in 2016. Emanuele Farneti served from 2017 to 2023, followed by current editor-in-chief Francesca Ragazzi. Under Ragazzi, the magazine continues to blend high fashion with political and environmental commentary, covering sustainability, ethical production, and fashion history.
Vogue Italia is one of 28 international editions of Vogue. It has collaborated with legendary photographers like Horst P. Horst, Irving Penn, and Annie Leibovitz, and writers such as Joan Didion and Truman Capote. The magazine's digital presence at vogue.it and social media channels extend its reach, while its print edition remains a trendsetter in avant-garde fashion photography.
