Vila Nova Futebol Clube

Vila Nova Futebol Clube arrived on the scene in Goiânia on July 29, 1943, and quickly became the heartbeat of football in Goiás. The club calls the massive Estádio Serra Dourada home, a venue that holds over 50,000 fans and turns into a fortress whenever the team plays. Supporters known as Torcida Vila bring relentless energy to matches, making every game at Serra Dourada a memorable event for locals.

While the team has spent time navigating the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, their recent form points toward the upper tiers of Brazilian soccer. In May 2026, they climbed back to the top of the Brasileirão Série B standings, showing they can compete with the best second-division sides. Their history includes multiple promotions to Série A and a string of state championships that keep them ahead of most rivals in the region. [edit]

The club was founded in 1943 by a group of local enthusiasts who wanted a professional team for Goiânia. They faced immediate challenges but grew steadily through the decades, becoming one of the few clubs from the Center-West region to consistently fight for national promotion. Their rivalry with Atlético Goianiense defines the city's football culture, with the Clássico da Capital drawing huge crowds and intense media attention every season.

Vila Nova has won the Campeonato Goiano numerous times, often sharing the title with Atlético Goianiense or Goiás Esporte Clube. The team has also secured promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A several times, though relegations have kept them bouncing between tiers. Recent years saw them regain the top spot in the Série B table in May 2026, proving their ability to bounce back from setbacks. [edit]
