    About

Viking Fotballklubb has called the coastal city of Stavanger home since its founding on August 10, 1899. This club holds a unique place in Norwegian sports history as the team with the most top-flight league matches played, outlasting countless peers that dissolved or faded away over the last century and a quarter. Their consistency is backed by a trophy case featuring nine Norwegian top-division titles and six domestic Cup victories.

The squad recently cemented their status as a modern powerhouse by securing the league championship in 2025. That success paved the way for a historic European breakthrough in late August 2026 when they qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time. A dramatic two-legged tie against GNK Dinamo Zagreb sealed their fate, culminating in a stunning 3–1 victory at Lyse Arena after drawing 2–2 in the first leg in Croatia.

    History

Founded in 1899, Viking Fotballklubb emerged from the maritime heritage of Stavanger to become one of Norway's oldest sporting institutions. The club has maintained an unbroken presence in the top tier of Norwegian football, a feat unmatched by any other team in the country's history. This longevity allowed them to accumulate a vast record of matches played while others came and went. Their competitive spirit is reflected in their nine national titles and six NM Cupen victories.

Recent years have seen the club reach new heights on the continental stage. After winning the 2025 Eliteserien title, they entered the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds with high stakes. The journey featured a tense matchup against GNK Dinamo Zagreb. While the first leg in Zagreb ended in a 2–2 draw, the return match on August 26, 2026, saw Viking dominate at Lyse Arena. They overturned the aggregate deficit with a 3–1 win, finally breaking through to the Champions League group stage and fulfilling a long-held dream for the supporters.
