Veronica Escobar

Veronica Escobar's career has been marked by a series of firsts: she was the first woman to represent Texas's 16th Congressional District and one of the first two Latina congresswomen from Texas. Her decade in El Paso County government, including six years as county judge, gave her a reputation for effective local leadership before she moved to Washington. In Congress, she has become a prominent voice on immigration and border issues, delivering the Democratic response to President Trump's 2019 Oval Office address. Her work has earned her a leadership profile with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
