Gustafsson's place in mountaineering history is secure. As the 17th person to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, and one of only a small fraction to do so without bottled oxygen, he stands among the greatest high-altitude climbers of all time. His feat is particularly notable because he accomplished it with a team-based, low-impact style that prioritized safety and respect for the mountains. His legacy continues to inspire a new generation of Finnish climbers, and his talks bring the lessons of the death zone to audiences far beyond the mountaineering world.
