Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are a professional ice hockey team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, competing in the National Hockey League's Pacific Division. Their home games are played at Rogers Arena, a downtown venue that opened in 1995. The team's colors are blue, green, and white, and their mascot is Fin the Whale. The franchise joined the NHL on May 22, 1970, as an expansion team alongside the Buffalo Sabres, and played its first home game on October 9, 1970, at the Pacific Coliseum.

The Canucks have reached the Stanley Cup Final three times, 1982, 1994, and 2011, but have never won the championship. They are one of the two oldest active NHL franchises without a Cup, alongside the Sabres. The team won the Presidents' Trophy for the league's best regular-season record in back-to-back seasons (2010–11 and 2011–12) and has claimed multiple division titles across the Smythe, Northwest, and Pacific divisions. The franchise began in 1945 as a team in the Pacific Coast Hockey League, later playing in the Western Hockey League before joining the NHL in 1970. The Canucks' early years were marked by struggles, but they reached their first Stanley Cup Final in 1982 under coach Roger Neilson, sweeping through the playoffs before losing to the New York Islanders. The 1994 team, led by captain Trevor Linden and Pavel Bure, went to a seventh game in the Final before falling to the New York Rangers. The 2011 squad, featuring the Sedin twins, won the Presidents' Trophy and advanced to Game 7 of the Final, where they lost to the Boston Bruins. That run sparked a rivalry that remains intense.

Off the ice, the Canucks have retired six jersey numbers: Stan Smyl (12), Trevor Linden (16), Markus Naslund (19), Pavel Bure (10), Daniel Sedin (22), and Henrik Sedin (33). All except Bure and Daniel Sedin served as team captain. The team's all-time leading scorer is Henrik Sedin, with 1,070 points. In 2024, the Canucks hired Manny Malhotra as their 23rd head coach, succeeding Adam Foote.
