Uthman Taha

Uthman Taha, born in 1934 in the rural Aleppo Governorate village of Sandi, Çobanbey, is a master calligrapher whose hand-written Qur'ans have reached hundreds of millions of readers worldwide. A Kazakh-Syrian-Saudi artist, he trained in Shari'ah at the University of Damascus, where he also studied Arabic language, Islamic ornamentation, and painting. In 1988, he moved to Saudi Arabia to join the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur'an in Medina, where he became a handwriter and calligrapher. Over his first 18 years at the Complex, he hand-wrote four Mushafs, and more than 200 million copies were distributed globally.
