TSG 1899 Hoffenheim operates out of Sinsheim in Baden-Württemberg and plays its matches at the PreZero Arena. The club traces its roots to a gymnastics association established on July 1, 1899, though its football section did not formally begin until 1945. For decades the team remained a minor player in the lower amateur tiers of German football before a massive shift occurred in the early 2000s.

A new chapter opened in 2016 when Julian Nagelsmann became head coach at age 28. He transformed the team into a consistent top-four contender, utilizing a high-pressing style that attracted attention across Europe. His tenure produced future international stars including Timo Werner and Niklas Süle before he departed for RB Leipzig in 2019.

The years following Nagelsmann saw a period of instability with several managerial changes, including Christian Ziege, Markus Gisdol, Sebastian Hoeneß, and Edin Terzić. By the 2026–27 season, Christian Ilzer took charge to stabilize the squad.
