True Beauty

Lim Ju-kyung has a face that makes her a target. In True Beauty, the tvN high school comedy that aired from December 9, 2020 to February 4, 2021, Mun Ka-young plays a girl who learns makeup from online tutorials and reinvents herself as the campus beauty. The twist is that her transformation is a secret, and keeping it turns her life into a tightrope walk. The series, based on a webtoon, mixes romance and comedy with a sharp look at beauty standards. Cha Eun-woo co-stars as Lee Su-ho, the brooding boy who sees past the surface, and Hwang In-youp plays Han Seo-jun, the bad-boy rival with his own hidden depths. Park You-na, Im Se-mi, and Park Ho-san round out the cast as friends and family who complicate Ju-kyung's double life. Director Kim Sang-hyub keeps the tone light but never lets the show forget the sting of insecurity.
