Tom Morello's influence on guitar playing is hard to overstate. Rolling Stone ranked him #18 on their 100 Greatest Guitarists list, later placing him at #26. He has sold over 30 million albums with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave combined. His 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction recognized not just his band's music but his role in fusing activism with arena rock. The Metal Hall of Fame honor that same year acknowledged his impact on heavy music. Morello's solo work as the Nightwatchman earned a spot on Rolling Stone's Best Albums of 2011 list. Beyond music, he received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 2006 for his work with Axis of Justice.
