Tokyo Verdy

Tokyo Verdy, officially known as Tokyo Verdy 1969, traces its roots back to 1969 when it was established as the Yomiuri Soccer Club. The organization began as a corporate team representing the Yomiuri Group before transitioning into a community-based club in 1993. This shift marked the start of their participation in the newly formed J.League, where they secured the inaugural championship title that same year.

The club has maintained a strong presence at the top level of Japanese football for decades. Their achievements include two J1 League titles, five Emperor's Cups, three J.League Cups, and four Japanese Super Cups. On the international stage, the squad won the Asian Club Championship in 1987, establishing an early legacy in continental competition.

Current management is led by Hiroshi Jofuku, who guides the team through the 2026-2027 season. The roster consists of 36 players with an average age of 25.0, featuring a mix of domestic talent and a small number of foreign imports. The club originated in 1969 as the Yomiuri Soccer Club, operating under the ownership of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper company. During the late 1980s, the team achieved significant success by winning the Asian Club Championship in 1987. They also captured the Emperor's Cup multiple times during this period while competing in the Japan Soccer League system.

A major structural change occurred in 1993 when the club joined the newly formed J.League. Renamed Verdy Kawasaki, they won the very first J.League Division 1 title in their debut season. The team relocated from Kawasaki to Tokyo in 1999, adopting the name Tokyo Verdy to reflect their new base in the capital region.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the club experienced fluctuations between the top flight and the second division. Despite these challenges, they remained a consistent participant in the J.League system.
