    Overview

Kōhei Azano crafted a modern take on Japanese folklore with Tokyo Ravens, a light novel series that debuted in May 2010. Sumihei provided the artwork for these volumes, which explore a world where ancient spirits known as Onmyoji still influence daily life through complex rituals and magic. The story follows Harutora Tsuchimikado, a boy who lacks magical talent but possesses an unusual connection to a powerful spirit named Tsubaki. Their journey unfolds against a backdrop of political intrigue within the prestigious Tsuchimikado clan, blending high-stakes supernatural battles with personal growth. The narrative first appeared as a serialized work before gaining traction through its print releases. While the original text remains the core experience, fans also enjoyed a manga adaptation released in 2010 and a television anime broadcast from October 2013 to March 2014. Funimation brought the show to international audiences via their streaming platform. The books balance traditional Shinto practices with futuristic elements, creating a unique setting where old customs meet new challenges.
