Overview
Akira Kogane is your average high school nobody, bad grades, no social skills, and a stack of manga he'd rather read than study. Then he boards the wrong train car and watches a teenager get ripped apart by something that looks human but definitely isn't. Before he can run, he's kidnapped by an alien and learns a secret that rewrites everything he thought he knew: Japan is a top-ten tourist destination for extraterrestrials. They come for the food, the neon, and the anonymity. But not all of them are on vacation.
Naoe's series, which launched in Square Enix's Monthly GFantasy in April 2020, drops Akira into a hidden war between alien factions and a shadowy organization that polices the interstellar visitors. The girl who saves him, Rin, works for that organization, and she's not entirely human herself. What follows is a fast-moving mix of sci-fi conspiracy and shonen action, with Akira forced to choose sides in a conflict where the line between refugee and threat keeps blurring.
As of May 2026, ten English volumes are out, with more on the way. The series earned an American Manga Award nomination in 2024, and its fan wiki shows a community that digs into every chapter's clues. Naoke's art, clean, kinetic, good at making Tokyo's alleyways feel alive, carries the story through its slower stretches. For readers who want alien politics without the grimness of Gantz, this one delivers.
