To Your Eternity

A mysterious orb, sent to Earth by a godlike being called the Beholder, possesses the power to transform into anything that stimulates it. It becomes moss, then a rock, then a dying white wolf. After the wolf dies, the orb takes its form and wanders a frozen landscape. There it meets a lone boy who names the wolf Joann. When the boy perishes, the immortal being takes his shape. This entity, later named Fushi, embarks on a centuries-long journey across a fantastical world, absorbing the forms, abilities, and memories of every person and animal it encounters. Through these interactions, Fushi gradually develops consciousness, emotions, and a deep understanding of human connection, all while being pursued by a destructive force called the Nokkers.

Yoshitoki Ōima, already famous for A Silent Voice, began serializing To Your Eternity in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine on November 9, 2016. The series ran for 8 years and 7 months, concluding on June 25, 2025, with 25 collected volumes. The final volume is scheduled for release on October 17, 2025. In North America, Kodansha USA Publishing released the first English volume on September 12, 2017. Ōima has said the story was inspired by her grandmother's death and a desire to explore survival and emotional evolution from a blank slate, marking a thematic shift from the past-focused A Silent Voice to a forward-looking narrative about growth and connection.

The manga won the 2018 Next Manga Award in the Print Category, the 43rd Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2019, and an Excellence Award at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2020. As of June 2025, worldwide circulation had surpassed 7 million copies. An anime adaptation by Brain's Base aired its first season in 2021, followed by a second season from Drive in 2022-2023, and a third season co-produced by Drive and Studio Massket that premiered on October 7, 2025. Critics have praised the series for its emotional depth, particularly in the early arcs involving the villagers of Ninannah and the characters March and Gugu. Fushi's continuous character development from an emotionless object to a deeply feeling being has been a highlight, with many reviewers giving the debut volumes near-perfect scores.[edit]
