Thriii

Thriii is an independent American girl group consisting of sisters China Anne, Sierra, and Lauryn McClain. As of 2025, they release singles on their own terms, blending R&B and pop with tight harmonies. Their journey from child actors to self-managed artists sets them apart in the industry. Fans know them for their close-knit dynamic and authentic songwriting. Though they haven't charted or won major awards, their story resonates with audiences who value artistic independence.[edit]

The McClain sisters grew up in a musical household in Atlanta. Their father, Michael McClain, is a music producer, and their mother, Shontell, was a gospel singer. The three began singing together as kids, performing gospel covers at church. In 2005, they formed 3mcclaingirls and started posting videos online.

Their big break came in 2007 when all three appeared in the film Daddy's Little Girls. They contributed the single "Daddy's Girl" to the soundtrack. That exposure led to a deal with Hollywood Records in 2011. As McClain Sisters, they released the singles "Rise" and "Go" and opened for Big Time Rush in Houston in 2012. But creative differences with the label stalled an album. They left Hollywood Records in 2013 without releasing a full project.

After a long hiatus, the sisters regrouped. In June 2020, they rebranded as Thriii and dropped their debut single "My Sanity" independently. The name Thriii reflects the three of them, with the three i's standing for individuality, integrity, and inspiration.[edit]

Thriii's sound has evolved from gospel-infused pop to mature R&B. Early as McClain Sisters, they made upbeat pop-rock with polished production. Now as Thriii, they lean into sultry R&B grooves and introspective lyrics. Their singles "My Sanity" and "Love Like This" showcase layered harmonies and electronic textures. Their transition from Disney-adjacent child actors to independent artists has been covered by outlets like Teen Vogue and Essence. The group uses its platform to support Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ rights. Thriii's fans call themselves Thriiigers, a name the group announced in 2020. The official fan color is three shades of blue, one for each sister. There is no lightstick yet. Every June 26, fans celebrate Thriiiversary, the group's debut day, with streaming parties. In 2021, a fan-led charity drive raised $5,000 for Black Girls CODE in the group's name.[edit]

China Anne McClain starred on Disney Channel's A.N.T. Farm and played Freddie in the Descendants franchise. Sierra portrayed Nessa on Fox's Empire for five seasons. Lauryn appeared in the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups. The sisters launched a podcast called Three of a Kind in 2020. China designed the group's logo of three interlocking circles.[edit]
