The Time of Our Lives

Miley Cyrus released The Time of Our Lives on August 28, 2009, through Hollywood Records as her first extended play. This project marked a deliberate pivot from her Disney Channel persona toward a more mature pop artist. The EP arrived initially as an exclusive at Walmart stores before expanding to general retail markets later that month.

John Shanks produced the majority of the tracks while Dr. Luke handled the mixing process. Cyrus had limited involvement in the songwriting for the studio recordings and earned credits only for a live rendition of her collaboration with the Jonas Brothers included on the release. The sound features guitar-driven arrangements typical of the pop-rock genre prevalent in the late 2000s.

Upon its release, the EP debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart selling approximately 107,000 copies in its first week. It achieved Gold certification in the United States reflecting sales of over 500,000 units.
