The Sweet Escape

Gwen Stefani skipped the reunion with No Doubt in late 2006 to release The Sweet Escape, her second solo album for Interscope Records. She repurposed unused material from her debut sessions into a collection of twelve tracks that leaned heavily into hip-hop and R&B beats while keeping the ska energy of her earlier work. Critics noted the record closely mirrored her 2004 debut, praising catchy hooks but questioning its thematic depth compared to previous efforts.

The title track featuring Akon became a global hit, topping charts in the UK and Australia after lead single "Wind It Up" found moderate success. Stefani backed the project with an extensive world tour starting in April 2007 that covered North America, Colombia, Australia, Asia, and Europe.
