The Romantic

Bruno Mars released his fourth solo studio album The Romantic on February 27, 2026, via Atlantic Records. This project arrived more than four years after the collaborative An Evening with Silk Sonic with Anderson .Paak and over nine years since his previous solo effort 24K Magic. Mars co-wrote and co-produced the entire nine-track set alongside D'Mile, joining forces with longtime collaborators Philip Lawrence, Brody Brown, and James Fauntleroy. At 31 minutes and 30 seconds, the record stands as his shortest album to date, even shorter than his debut Doo-Wops & Hooligans.

The album features no guest artists or collaborations, focusing entirely on Mars' vocal performance and songwriting across contemporary R&B, pop, and soul. Apple Music described the work as a dedication to "two timeless pleasures: dancing and romance." Three singles supported the release. The lead single "I Just Might" dropped on January 9, 2026, debuting at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. This marked Mars' first-ever number-one debut and his tenth chart-topper overall. "Risk It All" arrived simultaneously with the album, while "On My Soul" followed in Italy on June 19.

Critical reception remained mixed despite immediate commercial success. Reviewers universally praised Mars' vocal prowess and production quality but divided opinions on lyricism, with some finding the songwriting less inventive than his earlier discography. Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop awarded the album a "light 5," calling it "very unadventurous and just very predictable," though he highlighted "God Was Showing Off" and "Why You Wanna Fight?" for their strong delivery. The supporting The Romantic Tour launched in April 2026, spanning 71 shows across North America and Europe through October. [edit]
