    Overview

Four years after confronting a demonic entity in a Romanian monastery, Sister Irene finds herself drawn back into the fight against supernatural evil. The year is 1956, and a chilling murder has occurred in a French boarding school, setting the stage for a terrifying return of the demon Valak, also known as the Nun. Director Michael Chaves, returning to the Conjuring Universe after helming The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, guides this sequel.

Taissa Farmiga reprises her role as Sister Irene, facing the malevolent force once more. She is joined by Jonas Bloquet, back as Maurice Theriault, whose fate remains intertwined with the demonic presence. Newcomers to the fray include Storm Reid as Sister Debra, a skeptical but capable nun who allies with Irene, and Katelyn Rose Downey as Sophie, a young student caught in the crosshairs of the supernatural. Produced by horror heavyweights James Wan and Peter Safran, the film was made on a reported budget of $38.5 million and has since grossed over $269 million worldwide, indicating a strong audience draw for the established franchise. While critical reception has been mixed, the film currently holds a 6.6 rating on IMDb from over 2,500 votes, suggesting a moderately positive audience response.

Sister Irene has since relocated to a convent in Italy, living a more secluded life. Meanwhile, Maurice Theriault, who was possessed by Valak in the first film and helped by Sister Irene to be freed, is now working as a handyman at a boarding school in Tarascon, France. At the school, Maurice has formed a bond with a young Irish student named Sophie and her mother, Kate, who is a teacher there.

The peace is shattered when a priest is murdered in France, and a series of other killings begin to occur across Europe, all bearing the terrifying hallmarks of the demon Valak. Sister Irene receives a vision of Maurice, seemingly in distress and pleading for help, which confirms her suspicion that Valak has returned and is using Maurice as a vessel once more. The Cardinal dispatches Sister Irene to investigate these deaths, using her previous experience with the powerful demon.

Sister Irene is joined on her mission by Sister Debra, a young novice who is initially skeptical but proves to be a capable ally. Together, they travel to Tarascon to confront the spreading evil and find Maurice. Upon arriving at the school, they encounter disturbing incidents that hint at Valak's presence and influence. Sophie, in particular, becomes a target, facing torment from other students and experiencing terrifying visions, including a brief glimpse of Valak herself, after being lured into a disused chapel.

As Sister Irene and Sister Debra delve deeper into the investigation, they realize the scope of Valak's malevolence, which has extended beyond mere possession to a widespread reign of terror. They must race against time to uncover Valak's motives and find a way to stop the demon before it can inflict more harm, all while navigating the dangers within the boarding school and protecting the innocent students, especially Sophie.
