Set years after the fall of the Empire, The Mandalorian and Grogu brings the beloved Disney+ series to the big screen. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), the stoic bounty hunter turned father figure, and the Force-sensitive Grogu face their biggest challenge yet when Imperial warlords regroup under a mysterious leader known only as The Regent. The New Republic, still fragile and spread thin, recruits Din for a high-stakes mission that forces him to confront the limits of his Mandalorian Creed.

Director Jon Favreau, co-writer Dave Filoni, and story consultant George Lucas crafted a script that expands the Mando-verse while keeping the intimate father-son dynamic at its core. The film features a blend of practical puppetry and CGI for Grogu, with a team of 12 puppeteers operating him on set. Shooting took place at Manhattan Beach Studios, with location work in Utah's Monument Valley, the Scottish Highlands, and underwater tank filming at Pinewood Studios.

Ludwig Goransson's score reworks his Emmy-winning television themes into a cinematic suite, blending electronic textures with choral elements. The soundtrack, released digitally on May 20, 2026, includes 22 tracks and incorporates subtle nods to John Williams' classic Star Wars motifs.[edit]

Din Djarin and Grogu have settled into a quiet life on Tatooine, taking occasional mercenary work to get by. Their peace is shattered when a distress signal arrives from an old ally, revealing that Imperial warlords are regrouping under a mysterious leader known only as The Regent. The New Republic, recognizing the threat, sends Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver), a hardened officer with a complicated past, to recruit Din for a dangerous mission: infiltrate an Imperial outpost on the ocean world of Mon Cala and steal intelligence about a secret weapon that could destabilize the entire galaxy.

Din is reluctant to involve Grogu, but the young apprentice's growing powers and curiosity make him impossible to leave behind. Their journey takes them across the galaxy, from the neon-lit underworld of Coruscant to the frozen wastes of an uncharted ice moon. Along the way, they encounter familiar faces: Zeb Orrelios (voiced by Steve Blum), the Lasat warrior from Star Wars Rebels, who provides comic relief and muscle; Lord Janu (Jonny Coyne), a cunning crime lord playing both sides; and the Anzellans (voiced by Shirley Henderson), diminutive alien mechanics who repair Din's damaged ship.

The central conflict emerges when Din discovers that the Imperial remnant is not just building a weapon—they are experimenting with Force-sensitive children, attempting to create a new generation of dark side users. Grogu becomes a target, hunted by a terrifying new villain named Hogsbreth (Matthew Willig), a hulking, cybernetically enhanced enforcer who answers directly to The Regent. As Din and Grogu navigate betrayal, narrow escapes, and moral dilemmas, the film explores themes of found family, the burden of legacy, and whether the galaxy can truly move past the shadow of the Empire. The story builds toward a confrontation on the Imperial stronghold world of Mandalore—a planet scarred by war but still holding secrets that could change everything.[edit]
