    Overview

Ray White walks through the halls of Arnold Academy of Sorcery looking like any other average student, yet he carries a secret that could topple kingdoms. Three years ago, this same boy ended a devastating war single-handedly as the legendary Iceblade Sorcerer, but trauma drove him to abandon his hero title and hide in plain sight. He enrolled under a false name hoping for a quiet life, only to be sorted into a group of misfits due to failing standard magical aptitude tests. The narrative follows his struggle to keep his overwhelming power hidden while forming bonds with spirited classmates like Tiaran and the mysterious Aisha.

Nana Mikoshiba launched this story on the user-generated novel site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2019, where it quickly gathered readers before Kodansha acquired it for print publication. The first volume hit shelves under the Kodansha Ranobe Bunko imprint on July 2, 2020, illustrated by Riko Korie. Each book runs between 250 and 300 pages, mixing school life tropes with high-stakes fantasy action. The series explores themes of identity and recovery as Ray faces a sinister conspiracy threatening the academy from within. Readers have noted the unique take on the overpowered protagonist trope, focusing more on emotional weight than raw combat prowess.

A manga adaptation by Norihito Sasaki ran digitally on Magazine Pocket from June 2020 to January 2024, visualizing the early arcs of the light novels. Cloud Hearts produced the anime television adaptation which aired from January to March 2023, bringing the story to a global audience via Crunchyroll. Home media releases followed in June 2024, and production for a second season began shortly after. Studio Zero-G took over animation duties for the sequel, which is scheduled to air in October 2026. Recent announcements in May and July 2026 confirmed additional cast members and released teaser visuals for the upcoming run.
