In a world where mutants are hunted by the government, the Strucker family's suburban life shatters when their teenage children develop powers. Reed Strucker, a prosecutor who once helped put mutants away, finds himself on the run with his wife Caitlin and their kids Lauren and Andy. They seek refuge with the Mutant Underground, a network of fugitives fighting for survival.
The series aired on Fox for two seasons, from October 2017 to February 2019. It follows the Struckers as they navigate a society that fears and persecutes them, while the Underground battles both Sentinel Services and a radical mutant faction called the Inner Circle. The show was created by Matt Nix and produced by Marvel Television and 20th Century Fox Television.

The Gifted takes place in an alternate timeline where the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants have vanished, leaving mutantkind defenseless against a hostile government. The story centers on the Strucker family: Reed (Stephen Moyer), a district attorney who prosecutes mutants; his wife Caitlin (Amy Acker); and their teenage children Lauren and Andy. When Andy's powerful telekinetic abilities manifest during a violent incident at school, the family is forced to flee from Sentinel Services, a government agency that hunts and imprisons mutants.
The Struckers find shelter with the Mutant Underground, a clandestine group led by John Proudstar (Blair Redford), a mutant with superhuman strength and speed. The Underground includes Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont), a magnetic manipulator who is Magneto's daughter; her boyfriend Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale), who controls light; Clarice Fong (Jamie Chung), who can create teleportation portals; and others. They operate from a hidden base, helping mutant refugees escape persecution. Sentinel Services agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell) becomes their relentless pursuer, driven by personal tragedy.
As the first season progresses, the Struckers learn that their family carries the Von Strucker bloodline, a powerful mutant lineage. Andy's abilities grow, and his sister Lauren develops force-field powers. The season builds toward a fracture when several characters choose to join the Inner Circle, a radical mutant faction led by Reeva Payge (Grace Byers). The Inner Circle believes mutants should take aggressive action to secure their own nation, setting up a conflict with the Underground's more cautious approach.
The second season shifts focus to the war between the Mutant Underground and the Inner Circle. The Inner Circle, operating from a high-tech skyscraper, seeks to force a Mutant Uprising that would make coexistence impossible. Meanwhile, the Underground tries to protect innocent mutants while preventing all-out war. The season explores the Von Strucker legacy, the strained relationship between Andy and Lauren, and Polaris's struggle with her father Magneto's legacy as she becomes a pawn in Reeva's plans. The series was canceled after two seasons, leaving its story unfinished.

Critical Consensus
The Gifted offers a solid family-drama spin on the X-Men mythos, anchored by strong performances from Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker. While the series occasionally struggles with pacing and melodramatic tendencies, its earnest exploration of persecution, prejudice, and family bonds provides enough emotional weight to sustain interest.
