The Diary of a Middle-Aged Sage's Carefree Life in Another World

Yasukiyo Kotobuki wrote this light novel series with original illustrations by Johndee. The story began serialization on the user-generated platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in February 2016 and caught the attention of Media Factory, which published it under their MF Books imprint later that September. Readers follow Satoshi Osako, a forty-year-old farmer who dies while playing a virtual reality game called Swords & Sorceries. He wakes up in the game world as Zelos Merlin, an overpowered Great Sage who has no interest in saving the kingdom.

Zelos spends his days cooking, gardening, and raising children in a quiet village. The narrative focuses on domestic routines rather than epic battles or political intrigue. This approach distinguishes the work from typical action-heavy isekai titles by prioritizing community building and the simple joys of retirement. The protagonist uses his immense magical knowledge to solve everyday problems like improving crop yields or fixing household items instead of fighting monsters. [edit]
