The Detective Is Already Dead

Nigoju's light novel series opens with a familiar setup: a chance encounter on an airplane between a young man and a mysterious silver-haired detective named Siesta. But that's where convention ends. After teaming up to thwart a hijacking and then spending years as partners fighting a secret war against a cabal of superhumans called the SPES, Siesta dies. The story then jumps forward to follow Kimihiko Kimizuka, now a high school student, as he tries to live a normal life, until a package containing Siesta's preserved heart arrives, pulling him back into a world of intrigue.

The series blends supernatural mystery, action, and a lingering sense of loss, with Siesta's death serving not as an ending but as the catalyst for a deeper conspiracy. Published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint since November 2019, the series runs to over a dozen volumes. A manga adaptation by Mugiko began serialization in Monthly Comic Alive in May 2020. Yen Press handles the English releases for both. An anime adaptation by ENGI aired from July to September 2021, with a second season slated for October 2026.[edit]
