The Brave and the Bold

DC Comics launched The Brave and the Bold in 1955 as a wide-ranging anthology that showcased war, western, romance, and science fiction stories alongside superhero tales. Early issues introduced Golden Age icons like the Flash (Jay Garrick) and Green Lantern (Alan Scott) before the book settled into its most famous identity. The series ran continuously for nearly three decades until issue #200 in 1983, serving as a flexible platform for writers to experiment with different genres and tones without strict continuity constraints.

Issue #74 marked a turning point when the title pivoted to focus exclusively on Batman teaming up with other DC heroes. This shift allowed creators to explore how the Dark Knight interacted with gods like Superman or aliens like Martian Manhunter. Writers such as Robert Kanigher, Dennis O'Neil, and Bob Haney defined the Silver and Bronze Age eras of the book.
