Tegami Bachi
"Letter Bee"
Hiroyuki Asada
Overview
Set in the perpetually dim world of AmberGround, where an artificial sun never quite reaches the horizon, Tegami Bachi follows Lag Seeing, a young Letter Bee tasked with delivering mail across a land fraught with danger and mystery. Lag's unique gift, the ability to see the memories and emotions embedded in objects and people, turns each delivery into a deeply personal journey. Accompanied by his fierce and loyal Dingo, Niche, he navigates a world where letters carry more than words, they carry the weight of human connection.
Written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Asada, this shōnen manga began serialization in Shueisha's Monthly Shōnen Jump in September 2006, later moving to Jump Square after the former magazine ceased publication. The series ran until November 2015, with its chapters collected into 20 tankōbon volumes. Viz Media licensed the manga for English release in North America, publishing it in their Shonen Jump magazine and releasing all 20 volumes. The story blends adventure, fantasy, and emotional drama, creating a rich narrative that explores themes of love, loss, and the bonds that tie people together.
Its popularity led to an anime adaptation by Pierrot+, which aired for two seasons from October 2009 to March 2011, and was later licensed by Sentai Filmworks. A PlayStation Portable game, Tegami Bachi: Kokoro Tsumugu Mono, was released by Konami on March 4, 2010. Tegami Bachi stands out for its atmospheric world-building and character-driven storytelling, offering a fresh take on the classic messenger archetype.
