Teasing Master Takagi-san

Sōichirō Yamamoto launched Teasing Master Takagi-san in June 2013 within the pages of Shogakukan's Monthly Shōnen Sunday Mini. The series found its footing early on, moving to the flagship Weekly Shōnen Sunday in April 2014 where it stayed for nearly a decade. Yamamoto drew from his own middle school memories to craft a story about Nishikata and Takagi, two students who share a unique dynamic. Every day brings new schemes as Takagi pranks her classmate while he plots elaborate revenge that never quite lands.

The narrative structure relies on this repetitive cycle rather than heavy plot twists. Takagi often reveals she knows exactly what Nishikata will do before he even acts, yet she continues the games because they bring her closer to him. Their interactions unfold through small moments like sharing lunch or walking home together, showing affection without ever needing dramatic confessions. The final chapter arrived in October 2023 after 20 collected volumes wrapped up the saga.

Yen Press handled the English localization, releasing the first volume in North America during 2019. Fans quickly embraced the wholesome tone, which avoids the cynicism common in many romantic comedies. The series concluded with Nishikata finally pulling off a successful prank, though the victory feels more like a gentle nod to their long-running relationship than a total shift in power. [edit]
