    Overview

Talentless Nana, known in Japanese as Munō na Nana, is a manga series that flips the superhero genre on its head. Written by Looseboy with art by Iori Furuya, it follows Nana Hiiragi, a seemingly ordinary girl who transfers to a school for kids with superpowers. But Nana has a secret mission: she must eliminate these "talented" students one by one, believing they pose a threat to humanity. The story blends psychological thriller with mystery, as Nana outsmarts her superpowered classmates using only her wits. Serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan since May 2016, the series has collected fourteen tankōbon volumes. Square Enix publishes the manga digitally in North America. A 13-episode anime adaptation by Bridge aired from October to December 2020. The manga runs about 190 pages per volume, offering a tight, suspenseful read. Genre-wise, it fits dark fantasy and psychological horror, appealing to fans of Death Note or Moriarty the Patriot.

The series subverts expectations by making its protagonist a cold-blooded killer. Nana's internal conflict between her mission and her growing empathy adds depth to an already tense narrative. Iori Furuya's artwork uses shadows and expressive character designs to heighten the paranoia. Critics have praised the plot twists and moral ambiguity, though some find later arcs repetitive. The manga has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide and has been nominated for an Eisner Award. A stage play adaptation ran in Tokyo in January 2023. The series is ongoing, with the author planning to conclude it within the next few volumes.
