    Waititi's most significant achievement is winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, making him the first person of Māori descent to win an Oscar. He also won a BAFTA and a Grammy for the same project. His short film Two Cars, One Night earned an Oscar nomination, a rare feat for a New Zealand short. He has directed two films that each became the highest-grossing New Zealand film of all time, Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. His Marvel films Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder collectively grossed over US$1.6 billion, making him one of the most commercially successful directors from New Zealand. In 2022, Time magazine recognized his cultural impact by naming him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
