T Bone Burnett

Joseph Henry "T Bone" Burnett III arrived in St. Louis on January 14, 1948, launching a career that would redefine American roots music for decades. He started as a guitarist before becoming one of the most sought-after producers in the industry. His journey took him from backing Bob Dylan in the 1970s to crafting the sonic landscapes of major Hollywood films. Burnett's work often blends genres seamlessly, pulling from blues, folk, and country traditions to create something fresh yet deeply rooted. His production credits read like a who's who of music history. He guided Los Lobos through their breakthrough era and helped shape the sound of Counting Crows and Gillian Welch. Later projects saw him working with heavyweights like Elton John, Ringo Starr, and Sara Bareilles. The 2007 collaboration Raising Sand between Alison Krauss and Robert Plant stands out as a masterclass in genre fusion, earning him a Grammy for uniting bluegrass with Led Zeppelin rock. This same spirit defined his film work, where he produced soundtracks for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Cold Mountain, Walk the Line, and Crazy Heart. These albums not only supported the movies but often topped charts on their own. Beyond records and scores, Burnett has expanded into television and solo performance. He served as musical supervisor for the series Nashville and created the atmospheric score for True Detective. His own artistic output includes the 2008 album Tooth of Crime, which featured songs written specifically for a revival of Sam Shepard's play.
