Surfin' Boy

On August 3, 2026, Red Velvet unveiled Surfin' Boy as the lead single for their seventh special extended play, Velvet Summer. The track marked the group's first full-unit comeback since their formation in 2014, featuring Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri. Departing from previous releases, the song embraces a bossa nova dance sound that blends languid guitar lines with relaxed reggae rhythms and a sensual house groove.

Joy served as the sole writer for the composition, crafting lyrics that fit the sunny, home-like theme of the project. Critics described the song as a musical postcard that successfully captures the essence of the season through its breezy production and polished choreography. The release delivered a sophisticated blend of genres tailored for warm weather listening while highlighting the group's vocal harmonies. [edit]
