Sun Country Airlines

Sun Country Airlines launched in 2002 as an ultra-low-cost carrier designed to serve the leisure market out of Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. The airline built its reputation by offering affordable fares to vacation spots across North America and the Caribbean while maintaining a significant charter business that supports seasonal demand.

The carrier operates a fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which allows it to efficiently handle both passenger flights and cargo contracts for Amazon Air. This dual revenue stream helps stabilize operations during fluctuating travel seasons, particularly when serving snowbird destinations in Florida and Mexico.

Recent years have brought operational hurdles including pilot shortages that forced flight cuts at the Minneapolis hub in August 2026. Despite these challenges and some high-profile customer service controversies, the airline continues to manage over 140 destinations and recently adjusted its West Coast strategy by moving terminal operations in Las Vegas.
