Summer Time Rendering

Shinpei Ajiro returns to his remote island hometown of Hinagami for the funeral of his childhood friend Ushio Kofune, who drowned under suspicious circumstances. Soon he learns of a local legend about "shadows", doppelgängers that can perfectly replicate and kill their originals. After dying, Shinpei discovers he can loop through time, resetting to a specific point before his death. With the help of Ushio's sister Mio and other allies, he relives the same summer days repeatedly, unraveling a conspiracy that threatens the entire island.

Written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka, the manga ran on Shueisha's digital platform Shōnen Jump+ from October 23, 2017 to February 1, 2021, collecting 139 chapters into 13 tankōbon volumes. The series blends mystery, horror, and psychological suspense, using its time-loop premise to explore grief, identity, and sacrifice. Critics praised Tanaka's tight plotting and emotional depth, with many comparing it favorably to Re:Zero and Steins;Gate.

A 25-episode anime adaptation by OLM aired from April to September 2022, directed by Ayumu Watanabe, and streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. A live-action film is announced for 2027. The manga sold over 3 million copies in Japan by 2022 and won the 2019 Next Manga Award in the web category. UDON Entertainment publishes the English edition, which was nominated for a 2023 Eisner Award.[edit]
